External Shans bone external fixators are designed for fixed orthopedic external systems to stabilize fractured bones other than the spine.
Shans, pins and wires are commonly used to connect bones. They are often used to hold small pieces of bone together for fixing with screws. In many cases, pins are used in conjunction with other internal bone fixation tools, but they can also be used alone to treat complications and fractures of small bones, such as those in the hands or feet. The wires usually leave the patient’s body after a certain period of time, but in some cases they may remain permanently in the patient’s body.
